Learning Logs need to be returned by Tuesday 22nd of March. I have already had some in and they look great. |I am planning an information evening and you will be able to view a variety of learning logs. I hope this will help in how to tackle them.
Thank you to those who have really made an effort so far.

Some tips
Writing a newspaper article on Florence Nightingale's work in the hospital in Scutari.
As I have mentioned previously the learning logs are very individual and there are many ways you can meet the learning objectives.
Some ideas are:
Have a 'thought shower' (Brainstorm- write it all down in point form around a bubble with Newspaper written in the middle) what your child knows about a newspaper e.g.
- They have headlines, (you could cut some out and stick them in the learning log)
- They have images & captions (you could display an example of these too)
- Read an article together and highlight adjectives/nouns/verbs etc.
- Look at advertising in the newspaper.
Make a concept map/spider diagram on what your child knows about Florence Nightingale's work in Scutari. We have done lots on this! You could discuss:
- Visits from a nurse from present (Mrs Dickenson) and the past (hot seating Mrs James as Florence Nightingale).
- Lessons in class, ask what work we have done.
- Drama work and dressing up as nurses and soldiers from the Crimean War.
- Information on the blog: look at photographs to jog their memory, Powerpoint information, relevant games, quizzes, video links.
Encourage your child to write a paragraph for a newspaper article and draw an illustration/image/photograph to accompany it, in a mock style newspaper that they have created.
THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES OF IDEAS TO HELP YOU AND ARE NOT PRESCRIPTIVE. IF YOUR CHILDREN HAVE ANY OTHER GREAT IDEAS THEN PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO THOSE.
Hope it helps.

Here are our first learning objectives for our learning logs. The home learning log books will be handed out to the children tomorrow. Please copy/print this out and stick it in the centre of a double page, your child can then work around these objectives and place their work on these pages. Please see the examples on the slide show below, if you need some ideas.
How your child and you choose to meet these objectives is up to you both. It is a personalised way of working and no two learning logs will look the same! I can't wait to see them finished. The work needs to be in by next Tuesday.
Any questions/concerns etc please post a comment below or ask myself or Mrs Farrell.
Thank you

Welcome
Welcome to our NEW home learning blog page. Hopefully you will be able to track the homework easily here. This page is purely dedicated to home learning and our new learning logs. The online games that reinforce the children's learning will be moved here and then this will free up our heavily used blog page!
Information below will tell you about our new learning log's initiative and this will start next Monday.
Please leave comments if you have any questions/suggestions.
